An AI project manager that does the admin, not the judgement

Strip a PM week down and a large share of it is not decision-making. It is chasing updates, re-keying a plan, writing the same narrative for the fifth time, formatting a pack, and reconstructing a RAID log that went stale in month two. That work is repetitive, evidence-based and reversible — which is exactly where AI is reliable.

1. Summarising a lot of delivery data into one consistent narrative.
2. Spotting the signal you stopped noticing — a task that has not moved in three weeks.
3. Turning a rough description into a structured plan you then correct.
4. Arithmetic: variance against baseline, capacity conflicts, probability scoring.
5. Producing the document nobody wants to write on a Thursday night.

We deliberately do not let the AI send email, change a plan, close a risk or commit a date on its own. Not because it cannot generate the action, but because being wrong in front of a sponsor costs more than the time it saves. Agents also cannot be assigned work items — accountability stays with people.

Judgement calls stay yours: what to escalate, whose estimate to believe, when to hold a date and when to have the difficult conversation. If a tool offers to do those unsupervised, be sceptical.
